§ 16.25.030. Blocks.

  • A.

    General. Blocks must fit easily into the overall plan of the development, and its design must show evidence and consideration of topography, natural constraints, adjacent uses and development, the transportation system, parks and recreation, and community facilities.

    B.

    Block Length. The length of uninterrupted continuous streets or roads shall be determined with due regard for the following:

    1.

    Needs for convenient access and circulation of emergency vehicles and the general public with due regard to the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic;

    2.

    Limitations and capabilities of topography, soils, drainage and other natural features; and

    3.

    The density of the proposed development.

    The following distances between intersecting streets are generally recommended:

    C.

    Block Width. Blocks shall be of sufficient width to permit two tiers of lots of appropriate depth, except where an interior street parallels a limited access highway or an arterial street or a railroad right-of-way.

    D.

    Connecting Adjacent Streets. In blocks of over one thousand, five hundred feet in length, the plan commission may require at or near the middle of the block a public walk connecting adjacent streets or other public areas. Such walks shall be at least five feet in width and shall be intended for the use of pedestrians or bicycles only.
